Estonian unicorn Pipedrive announces major downsizing and office closures
Estonia-founded CRM software company Pipedrive has announced a sweeping restructuring that will affect most of its roles. It is closing its Portuguese office and consolidating into fewer locations.

Pipedrive, a customer relationship management (CRM) software company founded in Estonia, announced on Thursday that it will substantially shrink across all of its locations, meaning fewer teams, management layers and offices. Pipedrive is one of Estonia's 10 unicorns, a term for privately held startups valued at US$1 billion or more. The changes also reach Estonian jobs, since roughly half of the company's employees work in the country.
What the CEO wrote
Estonian public broadcaster ERR obtained a letter to staff from CEO Paulo Cunha. It says the changes affect most current jobs and roles. Over the next two days, the company will speak with every employee individually to explain whether their position is at risk.
Cunha says the aim is a company that brings new solutions to market faster, understands customers more deeply and succeeds through product strength, operating in many ways like the startup it began as.
According to him, more small businesses are asking artificial intelligence for software recommendations, the free web traffic that drove growth has fallen sharply, and the paid traffic replacing it costs more. Earlier steps, including greater investment in product and marketing, a reorganised product development process and lower operating costs, were not enough. He stressed that the layoffs do not mean AI is being used to cut costs or replace people.
Plans and offices
Pipedrive intends to stay product-focused and keep investing in core CRM features, with a sharper emphasis on quality and reliability. It is also building an AI-driven sales system that records sales conversations, keeps data current, recommends next steps and handles routine tasks. The company wants to reduce its reliance on paid search advertising, cut management layers and meeting frequency, and consolidate into fewer locations so that most core teams share an office.
The group currently employs nearly 800 people. Marketing chief Mariliis Beger told the business daily Äripäev she could not say whether the Tallinn and Tartu offices will stay open, because different employment laws apply in different countries. Äripäev reports that the Portuguese office is closing, while the company still operates in Tallinn, Tartu, New York, Prague, Florida, London, Berlin and Dublin.
Pipedrive was founded in 2010 by Ragnar Sass, Timo Rein, Martin Henk, Urmas Purde and Martin Tajur.
