Indra Briķe, an actress at the Dailes Theatre in Riga, is battling a serious illness, which those close to her have known for some time. Director Dmitrijs Petrenko told the magazine Privātā Dzīve, in a piece by Evija Kalnbērza titled "I am trying very hard...", that the actress kept wanting to return to the theatre.

A role at the start of her illness

Petrenko says he began staging the play "He Said, She Said" ("Viņš teica, viņa teica") last spring. Around that time Briķe fell ill, and he asked whether she would agree to take part. She replied that it was the only thing that could help her in that situation. Petrenko says the team was very happy that she was still working and performing in the production. Another of his productions, "Monstrs", in which a role was also planned for Briķe, remains in the Dailes Theatre repertoire as well.

A colleague's words

According to Petrenko, everyone waited for her return until the very last moment. He describes Briķe as a major actress who never behaved like a star, had no taste for intrigue and was always ready to work. He calls her a professional with whom one could collaborate superbly and discuss how best to stage a particular scene, and also a very warm colleague.

Petrenko had spoken with the actress often in recent times. Briķe told him she was doing everything possible to return to the theatre. A few weeks ago, the cast of "He Said, She Said" recorded a video greeting for her. She replied that she was trying very hard.
