Changes at Aizkraukle swimming area: only one third of half-circle pontoon dock installed
This summer, only one third of the previous half-circle pontoon dock has been installed at Aizkraukle's Daugava swimming spot, raising questions among residents. The municipal administration explains the change is for practical reasons—to allow swimming from all sides—and that the other sections are worn out.

Residents of Aizkraukle have noticed that this year only one third of the former half-circle pontoon dock has been placed at the Daugava swimming area behind the city's cultural center. The dock was first installed in 2018, but its configuration has now been altered.
Aigars Zīmelis, the manager of Aizkraukle city and parish administration, explained that the modification was made to enable swimming from all sides of the pontoon. Previously, when the full half-circle was in place, swimming inside it was impossible due to the ropes used to secure the structure. Therefore, this year it was decided to install only one section of the pontoon dock.
The remaining sections are still available but are worn out and require repairs. Zīmelis noted that there are currently no plans to restore the half-circle layout, as it is considered impractical.
In recent years, this popular recreation spot has seen other improvements. For instance, a boating zone has been marked and restricted with buoys. Additionally, signs regarding dogs were previously placed, but they have not been installed this year. If residents file complaints, the municipality will consider possible solutions, including the placement of such signs.
