Next week's most common name-day names: Oļegs and Linda
Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs has released statistics on name-day names celebrated next week, with Oļegs and Linda topping the list as the most common in the country.
The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has published data from its Population Register showing which name-day names celebrated next week are the most and least common among Latvian residents.
Most common names
Among the names marked on the calendar from August 17 to 23, Oļegs is the most widespread, shared by 7,870 people, followed by Linda with 7,150. Next come Vitālijs (6,172), Liene (4,943) and Ralfs (4,935). Somewhat less common are Vineta (2,502), Janīna (2,231), Boriss (1,968), Melānija (1,698), Elena (1,624), Helēna (1,596), Rudīte (1,342) and Everts (1,073).
The week also includes name days for the rarer names Rojs and Liena, held by 453 and 388 people respectively.
Rarest names
The least common names on next week's calendar are Valgudis, held by just one person in the entire country, along with Ellena (23), Bernhards (51) and Imanta (70).
The statistics also break down how many name-day holders were born this year, as well as the distribution between Riga and the surrounding Pierīga region. For example, Riga is home to 3,391 people named Oļegs and Pierīga to 827, while Riga has 2,311 Lindas and Pierīga 1,014.
The data covers the period from August 17 to 23 and is regularly released as part of PMLP's population register statistics.
