Architect Jānis Dripe on Compromises, Royal Tours, and Life’s Moments
In a radio interview, architect, former diplomat and minister Jānis Dripe shared stories about designing a church in Moscow, showing Rīga to King Charles III, and completing a 90-kilometer ski in Sweden.

On Latvijas Radio's program “Laikmeta krustpunktā”, architect Jānis Dripe described himself as a man of compromises. During the conversation, he reflected on several key events and professional experiences.
Dripe spoke about the church he designed in Moscow, which became one of his projects abroad. He also recalled a time when he showed Rīga to the then-Prince Charles, now King Charles III of the United Kingdom. The architect also mentioned a physical challenge he overcame – a 90-kilometer cross-country ski in Sweden.
Among his most significant works, Dripe highlighted the Gaismas pils (National Library of Latvia) and concert halls in regional towns. He emphasized that there are moments in life worth living for, and these moments shape his approach to work and society.
