Midsummer cheese becomes daily staple: demand rises year-round
Production and consumption of Midsummer cheese in Latvia are growing, as the traditional festive product gains popularity for everyday meals.

Although Midsummer cheese (Jāņu siers) has long been considered a festive food, it is increasingly being purchased for daily consumption. Over recent years, both production volumes and demand for this cheese have risen steadily throughout the year.
Currently, 12 producers in Latvia manufacture Midsummer cheese, meeting the growing market needs. The increase in demand is attributed to consumers' preference for local and traditional products, as well as improved production techniques that enhance quality and availability.
The cheese is now commonly found not only on holiday tables but also in everyday meals. Producers expect this trend to continue, with Midsummer cheese potentially becoming a regular item in many Latvian households' daily diets.
