Tourist train «Jēkabītis» starts operating in Jēkabpils
From spring to autumn, on weekends, the small tourist train «Jēkabītis» will run in Jēkabpils, carrying passengers along the Daugava protective dam and through the old town. In just the first few days, passenger numbers have already exceeded half of the monthly target.

A new tourist attraction has officially launched in the city of Jēkabpils – a small train named «Jēkabītis». Manufactured in 1996, this vehicle will now operate regularly on weekends from spring to autumn. The route spans nearly ten kilometers, winding along the protective dam of the Daugava River and through the narrow streets of the old town.
Local residents have shown great enthusiasm for the new train. Within the first few days of operation, the number of passengers surpassed half of the monthly goal set by tourism officials. Authorities hope that «Jēkabītis» will become one of the city's most popular attractions, drawing both locals and international visitors.
The train consists of several small carriages and is designed to navigate the historic parts of the city comfortably. During the ride, passengers can enjoy views of the Daugava and learn about Jēkabpils' architectural heritage. This project is seen as an important step in diversifying the city's tourism offerings.
