Jelgava Municipality will build four new pedestrian paths this year, located in the parishes of Jaunsvirlauka, Platone, Zaļenieki, and Glūda, according to the local government. Work is set to begin this weekend with a path along the regional road P94 from Staļģene to Embūrga village in Jaunsvirlauka parish. This section will be 618.91 meters long and paved with concrete cobblestones to improve the area's amenities and pedestrian safety.

In August, three more projects will start. On Ausekļa Street in Lielvircava village, a 1,108.71-meter path will be built; on Centra Street in Zaļenieki, a 932.08-meter path; and on Skolas Street in Nākotne village, a 1,007.15-meter path from the municipal road Nākotne–Dārznieki to Tomsona Street. The projects will also include street lighting.

Gatis Ģērmanis, executive director of Jelgava Municipality, stated that these projects will not only improve traffic safety but also make the surroundings more convenient for residents for walks and recreation. He added that infrastructure work will continue throughout the year, including projects for educational environments and business support.

The municipality emphasizes that road and street infrastructure improvement is a priority in the 2026 budget. Total funding for this area is nearly 8 million euros, with over 1.9 million euros allocated specifically for pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure development.
