Joko Alender Re-elected as Vice President of ALDE
Estonian Reform Party member Joko Alender has been re-elected as vice president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) at a congress in Vienna.

Joko Alender, a member of Estonia's Reform Party, has been re-elected as one of the vice presidents of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) during the party's congress in Vienna. She first assumed this role in 2024. During her previous term, Alender oversaw the development of the "Alliance of Her" program aimed at empowering liberal women, contributed to shaping the organization's policies, participated in drafting the European Parliament election manifesto, and fostered cooperation and information exchange among European liberal parties.
Expressing gratitude for the support, Alender described her re-election as recognition of her work. "Europe faces serious challenges in security, economy, and fundamental values. A strong and united Europe is in Estonia's interest, and I will continue working to make Europe more competitive, secure, and steadfast in defending freedoms, the rule of law, and support for Ukraine," she said.
The congress also re-elected German MEP Svenja Hahn as ALDE president, a position she has held since 2024. Alongside Alender, the newly elected vice presidents are: Evgenia Kravchuk (Servant of the People, Ukraine), Fatimazhra Belhirch (Democrats 66, Netherlands), Julie Smith (Liberal Democrats, United Kingdom), Lucia Plaváková (Progressive Slovakia, Slovakia), and Jouni Ovaska (Centre Party, Finland). The ALDE leadership is elected for a two-year term.
In 2024, Alender served as Estonia's Minister of Climate, but returned to her duties as a member of the Riigikogu in March 2025.
