Restaurant "Jūras Pērle" opens in Jūrmala, reviving a legendary name

On Friday, September 18, a new restaurant called "Jūras Pērle" opened on Bulduru Avenue in Jūrmala. The name revives a once widely known Jūrmala entertainment venue, and the opening ceremony was attended by Latvian pop legend Laima Vaikule, whose professional career was closely linked to the historic restaurant that bore the same name.

New content under a historic name

According to a description provided by visitjurmala.lv, the new restaurant offers its own vision of Baltic cuisine, built around nature, seasonality and modern culinary craftsmanship. In this way, the historic name has been given fresh meaning suited to contemporary tastes.

The restaurant's history and its link to Laima Vaikule

The original "Jūras Pērle" restaurant opened in 1965. Thanks to its enormous size, clearly visible right on the seafront, it became one of the most famous entertainment venues in the entire Soviet Union and a recognizable symbol of Jūrmala. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Laima Vaikule performed there with her variety show, which made the venue especially famous while also helping launch her own rise to stardom.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and a sharp decline in the number of visitors to Jūrmala, the restaurant lost its former popularity. In the early 1990s the building suffered several fires, after which it stood derelict for a long time until it was finally demolished entirely in 2001.

Now, more than two decades later, the "Jūras Pērle" name has returned to Jūrmala's map in a new form — as a modern restaurant continuing the city's culinary legacy.
