How to Save Up to 100 Euros a Month at the Grocery Store Without Giving Up Favourite Products
Latvian newspaper Latvijas Avīze says shoppers can keep more than 100 euros over four weeks without changing favourite brands. Its first tip is to compare the price per kilogram or litre rather than trust promotional tags.

Latvijas Avīze, a Latvian daily newspaper, has published advice on how to save up to 100 euros a month at the supermarket without giving up familiar products. The article notes that most money-saving tips sound like a punishment: switch to the cheapest pasta, forget good coffee or eat only oats.
According to the publication, money in grocery stores usually disappears not because shoppers buy quality products, but because of marketing tricks and unconscious habits. It says that by keeping a favourite coffee brand or cheese and making a few strategic adjustments, shoppers could be left with more than 100 euros extra over four weeks.
Price per kilogram, not the promotion tag
The first tip is to judge a product by its price per kilogram rather than by the yellow promotion sign. Bright yellow or red price tags create an illusion of urgency, yet a promotional item in a smaller package often costs more than the standard pack next to it.
The only objective figure on the shelf is the small print in the corner showing the price per kilogram or litre. According to the article, buying larger packages of curd cheese, nuts or olive oil on this principle can easily save 15–20 euros a month.
