Rising prices force Latgale residents to cut back and plan spending carefully
Data from Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau show household consumer spending in Latgale averaged 446 euros per person per month last year. That is less than in any other region of Latvia.

Data from Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau (CSP) show that household consumer spending in the Latgale region averaged 446 euros per person per month last year. This is the lowest figure among all of Latvia's regions. With prices rising, residents have to plan their expenses carefully.
Where the money goes
Almost a third of this money went on food, and another 16% on housing and utilities. Together, these two categories take up a large share of household budgets.
Coping with higher prices
The LSM report raises the question of how to manage when incomes are limited and work is not always easy to find. It also asks what residents have to give up so that their money covers both everyday needs and unexpected expenses.
