Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, has said that the question of consultations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on ending the Russia-Ukraine war will "depend on the situation on the battlefield and the general environment." He was quoted by the Russian news agency Interfax. The date of the talks has not yet been fixed, and their format remains under discussion.

Ushakov said the date would be determined later, but that it would definitely fall after November 4. He also said the composition of the Russian delegation would be announced at a later stage. According to him, a "core" team already exists, but the final lineup should be settled in the near future.

He specifically stressed that the contacts are planned with the participation of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the US, emphasizing that they will be representatives.

Background

Ushakov had earlier stated that the European side would not take part in the trilateral technical talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia due to be held next month. He also claimed that Russia was ready to resume trilateral negotiations with the US and Ukraine on ending the war after November 4.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after European leaders spoke with the head of the Kremlin, there was a sense that Russia was serious about a meeting of negotiating teams in Abu Dhabi. He added that the trilateral meeting of Ukrainian, Russian and US technical teams, planned for early November, depends on the American side.

Media reported that Russia may try to use the new round of peace talks to extract concessions from NATO, the North Atlantic military alliance.
