Russia launches deadly missile and drone attacks on Kyiv
Russia struck Ukraine's Kyiv region with ballistic missiles on Monday, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens, as Ukraine continues to fight for the strategic town of Kostyantynivka.

Russia launched a new attack on the Kyiv region using ballistic missiles on Monday morning, resulting in at least eight deaths and dozens of injuries. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that rescue crews were pulling residents from buildings destroyed overnight. Authorities said seven people were killed in Kyiv and one in the Bucha district northwest of the capital. At least 34 people were wounded in Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv region's military administration, confirmed that missiles and drones struck residential buildings and other structures. "The enemy is striking with ballistic missiles," he wrote on Telegram. Klitschko said air defenses were active and urged people to remain in shelters.
The attack came a day before a NATO summit in Turkey, where US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are expected to discuss the war. This was the second assault on the capital and its surroundings in less than a week, as both sides escalate long-range strikes. Ukraine has increasingly targeted energy facilities inside Russia and occupied territories in recent weeks.
In Russian-annexed Crimea, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said a Ukrainian strike near Sevastopol temporarily cut off electricity. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that several waves of drones heading for the Russian capital were shot down by air defenses. Zelenskyy stated on Sunday that Ukrainian troops continue to fight for the strategic eastern town of Kostyantynivka, a gateway to key Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk region, despite Russia's claim that it had captured the town.
