Russian forces attacked Dnipro, a major city in south-eastern Ukraine, and the wider Dnipropetrovsk region overnight into 3 November, hitting critical infrastructure facilities. The announcement came from Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration. Attacks of this kind typically threaten electricity, heating and other services that residents rely on every day.

What regional officials said

Hanzha stated that Russian forces struck critical infrastructure facilities in Dnipro and in the Kryvyi Rih district. His statement did not say which facilities were hit or how much damage was caused. Information about casualties is still being clarified, so neither the number of victims nor their condition is known yet.

The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier warned of ballistic missiles heading toward Dnipro. Ballistic missiles follow a high trajectory and reach their targets very quickly, which leaves little time for warning.

What came before

On the evening of 2 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, citing intelligence data, said Russia was preparing a new massive strike on Ukraine. According to him, the main targets would be energy and logistics facilities.

The overnight attack on Dnipro and the region came only hours after that warning. The source does not say whether this attack is part of the large-scale strike the president described.
