Russian military strikes on Ukraine's grain ports and Black Sea shipping have escalated sharply this year, according to the latest figures. While 2025 saw a total of 14 such attacks, July of this year alone recorded 124.

Impact on grain supplies

The surge in attacks has caused significant disruption to Ukraine's grain exports. Up to 2.5 million tons of wheat originally destined for Asian markets are currently delayed. This volume represents a substantial share of Ukraine's wheat exports moving through the Black Sea, the country's main route for shipping agricultural products to world markets.

Consequences for global markets

As one of the world's largest wheat exporters, any disruption to Ukraine's export capacity affects global grain supply levels and prices. The delays are adding further pressure to wheat markets already sensitive to war-related disruptions in the Black Sea region. The situation underscores how the war continues to affect not only Ukraine directly but also global food supply chains.
