Land Rover recalls nearly 630,000 vehicles due to airbag defect
Land Rover has initiated a recall campaign affecting approximately 629,000 vehicles worldwide, including more than 31,000 in Germany, because the driver's airbag electrical connection in the steering column may corrode over time, preventing deployment in a crash.

Recall for specific models
British automaker Land Rover has announced a large-scale recall covering nearly 630,000 vehicles globally. The recall involves three popular models – Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover – produced between April 2019 and June 2026. In Germany alone, more than 31,000 vehicles are affected.
Cause and risk
The manufacturer identified that the electrical connection contacts for the driver's airbag in the steering column can corrode over time. This corrosion may lead to poor electrical contact, which in the event of an accident could prevent the airbag from deploying, increasing the risk of injury.
Repair procedure
Service technicians will treat the affected connections with a special protective agent to prevent further corrosion and ensure a reliable electrical connection. The repair is quick, taking approximately 25 to 30 minutes.
Response and safety
Jaguar Land Rover, together with Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority, has reported no incidents or injuries linked to this defect to date. Vehicle owners will be personally notified of the need to visit a workshop for a free repair to ensure proper airbag function.
