Latvian medic Veronika Puiša to spend nine months in Antarctica studying isolation effects
Veronika Puiša, a Latvian medic with experience in Scotland and the European Space Agency, will travel to Antarctica for nine months to study how an isolated environment affects humans.

Veronika Puiša, a Latvian medical professional who started her career as a family doctor in Scotland, is now preparing for an unusual mission – she will spend nine months in Antarctica, researching how isolation affects people.
Puiša is not only an experienced family doctor but also a member of the European Space Agency's medical board and an aerospace medic. Additionally, she works at F1 tracks, demonstrating her broad expertise in extreme conditions.
Although Latvia does not have its own astronauts, Puiša is considered one of the strongest candidates in the field. Her work in Antarctica will help better understand how humans adapt to long-term stays in confined and harsh environments, which could also be useful for future space missions.
