Today, July 10, a press conference took place at a Neste high-power charging station for the upcoming Neste MY Renewable Charge EV Rally Latvia. This event is the sixth round of the 2026 FIA Eco Rally Cup season, to be held in Latvia.

Speakers included race director Jānis Krastiņš, Neste charging service manager for the Baltics Ilze Brauna, Ogre municipality chairman Andris Krauja, Ķekava municipality deputy chairman Aigars Vītols, and several competitors: Krišjānis Caune, series leader Michal Žďárský, and 2025 champion Gido Gerini from San Marino.

Krastiņš emphasized that regularity rallying is an accessible motorsport discipline requiring only a car, precise driving, and mathematical skills. He noted the event combines classic speed stages with an opportunity to explore the host country.

Brauna expressed pride in being the official charging partner, highlighting that the rally proves electric cars are suitable for both daily use and long distances. Krauja welcomed the chance to showcase Ogre to an international audience, while Vītols said the competition will boost Ķekava's recognition as a tourist destination.

Latvian driver Krišjānis Caune stated: "Everything starts with crazy ideas." He thanked international participants for pushing the competition forward. Žďárský noted the Latvian stages feature many gravel sections with high average speeds, a departure from mostly asphalt events. Gerini remarked that driving from San Marino to Latvia in an electric car demonstrates Latvia's excellent charging infrastructure, and challenges will include the Biķernieki track and slippery gravel.

The FIA Eco Rally Cup is a regularity competition using standard electric cars. Participants drive on public roads, maintaining a set average speed while minimizing energy consumption. The first Latvian crew, Krišjānis Caune and Edgars Svencis, debuted in 2025 and continue this season.
