Latvian universities propose stricter requirements for foreign students
The Ministry of Education and Science suggests introducing minimum grade requirements, SAT scores, and stricter attendance tracking for international students.

The plan would require foreign applicants for bachelor's studies to have at least 60% grades in subjects relevant to their chosen program. Additionally, a minimum SAT score of 1200 points would be required to uniformly assess academic readiness. The Ministry also proposes that universities keep video interview recordings in student files, as cases have been found where third-country nationals admitted to English-language programs could not answer simple questions in English. Attendance rules would be tightened: if a student misses 10 consecutive days without excuse or attends less than 80% of classes in a month, the university must expel them.
