Chinese electric vehicle maker Leapmotor International plans to start producing its compact B05 hatchback at the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza, Spain. Stellantis is the automotive group that operates the factory, which already builds several models popular in Europe. The B05 will be the second Leapmotor vehicle planned for production at the site, after the B10 family crossover. The move strengthens the Chinese company's presence in the European market.

Part of a European strategy

According to the source, the decision is an important step in Leapmotor's European development. The strategy aims to combine the Chinese company's technology and innovation with Stellantis' experience, production capacity and high quality standards.

Manufacturing in Europe will let Leapmotor take a closer part in the region's automotive industry and bring its electric cars nearer to European customers.

Management comment

Leapmotor International chief executive Danilo Annese said the B05 production plans confirm the strategic importance of the Zaragoza plant for the company's European development. He added that cooperation with Stellantis supports the use of local manufacturing expertise and long-term growth in the European market.

Other models at the plant

The Zaragoza plant also produces the Opel Corsa, Peugeot 208 and Lancia Ypsilon. Leapmotor cars will therefore be built at a factory that already works with several brands of the Stellantis group.
