Filming of an international series has wrapped up on the Oskars Kalpaks Bridge in Liepāja, a port city in western Latvia, and the bridge is operating as usual again. The series is based on "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", the novel by Swedish writer Stieg Larsson. Local officials say the project shows Liepāja can host film productions on an international scale and raises the city's profile.
Filming in Liepāja took several days. Jonas Spokas, location manager of the upcoming series, said the Oskars Kalpaks Bridge is one of the most important elements of the project and one of its most visually striking filming sites. He added that Liepāja's surroundings are very diverse and well suited to cinema.
Thanks to residents and businesses
Special thanks were extended to port businesses and residents of Karosta for their understanding, responsiveness and patience while the filming took place.
Benefits for the city
According to the Liepāja Special Economic Zone Authority, the project demonstrated that the city can carry out film productions of international scale. This increases the chances of attracting new film, arts and creative industry projects in the future, bringing long-term economic and reputational benefits to both the city and the region.
The authority considers that productions of this scale make a significant contribution to the city's international recognition.
