The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra has announced the program for the Dienvidkurzeme festival “Rimbenieks,” which will take place from August 2 to 16. Since its inception in 2021, the festival has become an annual tradition, drawing audiences to nine locations in the Dienvidkurzeme region: Grobiņa, Bārta, Ziemupe, Aizpute, Gavieze, Medze, Vaiņode, and Kazdanga.

The concerts will feature music ranging from Baroque to contemporary. The opening concert on August 2 at Grobiņa Lutheran Church will be performed by the ensemble “Sonore Antiqua” with soprano Gunta Gelgote, presenting works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, and Telemann. The closing concert on August 16 at Kazdanga Cultural Centre, conducted by Gints Kuzma, will include Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, and Emīls Dārziņš’s Melancholic Waltz.

Orchestra director and festival founder Uldis Lipskis emphasized that August is a month of love, when musicians meet their audience. This year, familiar ensembles such as the “Berči” string quartet and the Liepāja Mežragu quartet will return, alongside new artists including soprano Katrīna Paula Felsberga and the “Nōna” string quartet.

Admission to all concerts is free. The full program is available on the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra’s website.
