LIZDA calls for increased education funding in the budget
The Latvian Education and Science Workers' Union (LIZDA) urges the government to allocate funds in next year's budget for teacher salary raises, learning materials, and other education priorities.

The Latvian Education and Science Workers' Union (LIZDA) has called on the Ministry of Education and Science to request funding to implement a salary increase for teachers from January 1 of next year, in line with the previously approved wage growth schedule.
The union also proposes maintaining funding for the purchase of teaching aids, including subscriptions to digital platforms such as "Soma.lv" and "Uzdevumi.lv", and reviewing funding for vocational and special education programs.
Additionally, LIZDA calls for increased funding for higher education, science, and national research programs, continuing support programs for teachers who lose their jobs due to school network optimization, and reinstating state support for student loan repayment for teachers after graduation.
Minister of Education and Science Ilze Indriksone (National Alliance) previously stated that she cannot make specific promises about teacher salary increases next year because the 2027 budget situation is still unclear. At the same time, she expressed commitment to defending education sector priorities in budget negotiations.
