Mairis Briedis, a well-known figure in Latvia, has spoken candidly to the magazine Kas Jauns about how he feels after divorcing his wife Jūlija. The couple spent 18 years together and have three children. The interview was published in October 2026, and the magazine's latest issue carries the full version.

Recovery and attitude toward his former wife

Briedis said he has gradually recovered from what he went through. According to him, the marriage of more than two decades ended when his wife decided to leave for another man. He did not voice reproaches, wishing her happiness and thanking her for the 18 years they shared. In his words, that is life and experience.

The children come first

Briedis stressed that after a divorce the most important thing is to preserve a humane relationship, because the couple has three children. He said the main goal is to raise their sons to be real men.

No new relationships planned for now

He said he currently does not want a serious relationship and is enjoying his freedom. He does not have to account to anyone for where he goes or what he does, and what matters most is that he no longer wants to deny himself things or be someone else's.

Asked about his relationship with his former wife, Briedis admitted that the two have not managed to stay on friendly terms after the divorce. He believes it is too early to discuss this publicly and described the situation as a tangled knot that needs to be unravelled.
