Lauren Stivrin, 28, and her sister Ember Stivrin, 25, along with their father Alex Stivrin – a former NBA player with 22 games – were granted Latvian citizenship this spring. Their grandfather was born in Izvalta parish, Latvia. Both sisters previously excelled in indoor volleyball at the NCAA level; Lauren reached the NCAA final three times, winning once, and vied for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for Paris 2024, but injuries prevented her selection.

Now the sisters have transitioned to beach volleyball. Ember told "Sporta Avīze" that the switch was humbling and challenging, yet exciting. They debuted at the "Saulkrastu kokteilis" tournament in late June, advancing to the quarterfinals. Lauren expressed confidence that given a year, they can prove their competitiveness.

This season, their main focus is completing paperwork to represent Latvia, gaining experience and ranking points, so that next year they can fully commit to earning a berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The women's beach volleyball tournament will feature 24 teams; some spots will be allocated this season through continental championships, while most will be determined next season via the FIVB Olympic ranking, plus three quota places from qualification tournaments. No more than two teams per country are allowed.
