Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla posted racist comments on social media platform "X" after her country's defeat to France in the World Cup round of 16, targeting French captain Kylian Mbappé. She claimed Mbappé couldn't write, was given coconuts instead of mother's milk, and only heard chimpanzees, calling him a "colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French."

Mbappé responded publicly, calling the senator a "contemptible woman unworthy of her position" and stating she does not represent Paraguay, a country that showed passion and honor throughout the tournament. He said her reckless racism would make the world forget Paraguay's team achievements.

The Paraguayan government publicly distanced itself from the senator's remarks, stating they contradict national values. French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari called the comments "disgusting and shameful," while President Emmanuel Macron expressed solidarity with Mbappé and the team.

Amarilla later deleted the original post and published an open letter apologizing, but demanded an apology from Mbappé, threatening legal action if not received.

Additionally, France coach Didier Deschamps was reportedly insulted about his recently deceased mother during the match. Paraguay coach Gustavo Alfaro denied these claims.
