Microsoft 365 outage stretches into second day, but improvement continues
Microsoft is continuing to work through a multi-day Microsoft 365 outage that has disrupted Outlook and other services, saying conditions are gradually improving though full resolution has not yet been confirmed.

Microsoft's effort to fix a multi-day outage affecting Outlook and other Microsoft 365 services has entered its second day. While the company made significant headway on Monday, the issues were still not fully resolved as of Tuesday.
In its latest update on X, Microsoft said its mitigation actions "are continuing to progress" across the remaining affected infrastructure, adding that telemetry indications remain positive and service availability is improving. That falls short of declaring the outage over — the company said it is now entering an extended monitoring period to ensure a full resolution.
Services affected
Although Outlook drew the most attention, Microsoft's status page shows the disruption also touched SharePoint, Copilot, Teams, Purview, Defender XDR, the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, and Universal Print. The company attributed the trouble to an issue with a core authentication configuration used across multiple Microsoft 365 services.
Cause and response
Overnight, Microsoft shared details on X explaining that its investigation traced the problem to a misconfiguration that prevented authentication components from deploying as expected to a portion of its infrastructure. Engineers reviewed recent changes that could have triggered the issue, then tested and rolled out mitigations aimed at providing relief to users.
By 10 p.m. ET Monday, Microsoft said mail flow was improving even though search functionality remained degraded. Just after 3 a.m. ET Tuesday, the company reported improvements in search as well. While many users are likely experiencing better performance by now, Microsoft has not yet declared services fully restored to normal.
