First Director of NMPD Renāte Pupele Passes Away After Serious Illness
Renāte Pupele, the first director of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) and a long-time healthcare professional, has died after a serious illness.

Renāte Pupele, the first director of the Latvian Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), has passed away following a prolonged and severe illness. Colleagues described her as an outstanding healthcare management professional.
Born in 1953, Pupele began her medical career as a nurse's assistant and later as a nurse. She subsequently became a doctor, working as a therapist at Mazsalaca Hospital and as a physician in the admissions department of Riga's 7th Clinical Hospital.
She held several leadership positions in healthcare administration: deputy director of the Riga City Council Health Department and the Riga District Health Insurance Fund, head of the Health Department of the Ministry of Welfare, and later advisor to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and director of the Strategic Planning Department.
From 2004 to 2009, Pupele led the Operational Medical Service of the Disaster Medicine Center. In February 2009, when the NMPD was established, she became its first director. She later continued working at the service as deputy director.
