Netflix adds AI-powered «Discover» tab to its TV app
Streaming service Netflix is rolling out a new «Discover» tab in its TV app, featuring experimental AI-powered tools for finding something to watch. The first feature offers recommendations grouped by themes such as family movie night or quick watches.

Streaming service Netflix is gradually introducing a new tab called «Discover», or «AI Discover», in its TV app. The company will use it to showcase experimental, AI-powered features that help viewers find new shows and movies. The rollout begins in the US, but it matters more broadly because it shows how the company is changing the way it suggests content.
The first experiment organizes content around themes. Examples include «Something Light», «Family Movie Night» and «Quick Watches». When a user picks a theme, Netflix shows recommendations matching it. If a suggestion is unappealing, the user can tell Netflix, and the app will remember that feedback.
The company says the feature is powered by «a new intelligence layer we've been building that responds to what members tell us in real time and keeps learning.»
Availability
The «Discover» tab will appear in the top menu. It is gradually becoming available in the US to «members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs.»
Context
The announcement follows recent layoffs at Netflix of around 1,000 employees amid slower growth. According to reports, users are also watching the service less.
