NHL: Philadelphia Flyers Lose Seventh Straight, Seattle Kraken Beat Washington
The Philadelphia Flyers have opened the NHL season with seven straight losses, a club record. The Seattle Kraken won 5-3 on the road against the Washington Capitals.

In the National Hockey League (NHL), North America's top ice hockey league, the Philadelphia Flyers have lost their seventh consecutive game to start the regular season, a new club worst. The Carolina Hurricanes, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, won 4-1 in Philadelphia. In another game, the Seattle Kraken won 5-3 away to the Washington Capitals.
Philadelphia 1, Carolina 4
Previously, the Flyers had lost their first six games of a season in 1999-2000 and 2008-09. On both occasions the team recovered and reached the playoffs. Their record now stands at 0-5-2.
Carolina scored its first three goals in the second period, helped by mistakes from defenseman Oliver Bonk in his first game of the season. Andrei Svechnikov opened the scoring, Shane Gostisbehere followed, and Sebastian Aho made it 3-0. Svechnikov and Aho each had a goal and an assist. Gostisbehere has scored both of his goals this season against his former team. In the third period, Mark Jankowski scored Carolina's fourth goal, extending his goal streak to four games.
After losing their first two games, the Hurricanes have won five in a row and lead the league with 11 points. They have now earned at least a point in 12 consecutive road games in Philadelphia.
Washington 3, Seattle 5
The Kraken picked up their fourth win in six games this season. Jared McCann scored the winner 5:27 before the end of regulation, entering the zone through the middle and beating Logan Thompson with a quick shot. Ryan Winterton later extended the lead, and Joey Daccord stopped 33 shots.
Kaapo Kakko put Seattle ahead in the seventh minute of the first period, but the score was 2-2 after the first period, as Jordan Eberle equalized ten seconds before the break. In the second period Frederick Gaudreau restored the Kraken's lead, and 46 seconds into the third Boone Jenner tied it 3-3 on a rebound.
McCann scored his 13th game-winning goal for Seattle, matching the club record. The Kraken began a five-game road trip with two wins, outscoring opponents 11-6 in those games. It was Washington's second loss in five games this season, and Thompson stopped 22 shots.
