‘Optižūns’ Festival Returns for Eighth Year in Ērgļi, Attracting Art Enthusiasts
On July 11, the eighth edition of the contemporary and experimental art festival ‘Optižūns’ took place at Pārsteigumkalns in Ērgļi, drawing a small but dedicated crowd primarily composed of art professionals and their friends.

The outdoor festival ‘Optižūns’ was held on July 11 in Ērgļi, at the site known as Pārsteigumkalns, marking its eighth edition. This event focuses on contemporary and experimental art, aiming to shock, move, liberate from the superfluous, and demonstrate alternative artistic approaches.
Despite a modest attendance, the low number of visitors is not attributed to competition from other events like the Fishermen's Festival or the LAMPA conversation festival. Instead, it reflects that ‘Optižūns’ attracts mainly those already within the art bubble – artists, curators, and other creative professionals, along with their friends. This is seen as a positive aspect, as the festival provides a space for creation, experimentation, and inspiration. It remains a key event in Latvia's alternative art scene, allowing participants to step beyond conventional boundaries.
