Homemade Lunch Boxes Help Save Money and Eat Healthier, Say Nutrition Experts
Skipping lunch can lead to health issues, and eating out is not always healthy or economical; homemade lunch boxes are a great alternative, according to nutrition specialists.

Lunch is an important meal that should not be skipped, as it can cause various health problems. However, eating at cafés or buying food in stores is not always healthy or cost-effective. A good alternative is homemade lunch boxes, said nutrition expert and head of the Nutrition program at Turība Business School, Guna Bilande, and nutrition expert Eva Šmite on Latvian Radio's program "How to Live Better."
The experts emphasized that home-cooked food allows control over ingredients and portion sizes, promoting healthier eating habits. Moreover, it is significantly cheaper than regularly eating out. Planning and preparing meals for several days in advance can save both time and money.
For a balanced lunch box, it is advisable to include protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and vegetables. Examples include buckwheat with boiled chicken and vegetable salad, or whole-grain bread with avocado and tuna. The specialists recommend avoiding processed foods and added sugar.
Although the article does not cite specific studies, the advice is based on well-known nutritional principles. This approach is particularly relevant for working people and students who want to improve their diet without straining their budget.
