Tyre marks left on Riga's Krastmala after Red Bull Showrun spark public debate
After the Red Bull Showrun motorsport event in Riga, visible tyre marks remain on the road along Krastmala, prompting discussion on social media. The Riga municipality says the marks are not road surface damage and will fade over time.

Following Saturday's Red Bull Showrun motorsport event in Riga, residents' attention turned to a different trace left by the celebrations — clearly visible tyre marks on the road surface along Krastmala. Photos of the marks spread on the social network Threads, where users began debating whether and how they should be removed.
One user asked whether the marks would need to be cleaned with a pressure washer, chemicals or brushes, or whether rain would wash them away naturally. Another commenter shared that similar marks left after tyre burnouts had disappeared within about a month in their own experience. Several commenters pointed out that the affected stretch is relatively short — just a couple hundred metres — and, given the heavy traffic in the area, the marks would likely fade on their own before long. One opinion suggested that the only thing actually worth restoring is the white road markings on that section.
Municipality's explanation
Mārtiņš Vilemsons, project coordinator at the Riga municipality's External Communications Division, told the LETA news agency that the event site was cleaned up following the standard procedure used after public events. Tyre marks remain on the road surface, he said, but they will gradually disappear due to traffic and weather conditions. He added that the marks are not considered damage to the road surface.
The municipality also noted that the costs associated with organising the event were covered by the show's organisers, while the Riga municipality provided only informational support.
The Red Bull Showrun took place last Saturday along a section of Eksporta iela, between Elizabetes iela and the Vanšu Bridge. The event marked the first time Formula One and other motorsport discipline demonstration cars were shown together in one place in Latvia.
