Train services gradually resume on three routes after storm damage
Passenger rail operator Vivi partially restored electric train services on Sunday evening after a powerful storm damaged railway infrastructure. The Riga-Vecāķi section remains closed while other routes are still being brought back to normal schedules.

Following a severe storm that hit Latvia on Saturday evening and into Sunday night, passenger rail operator AS "Pasažieru vilciens," operating under the Vivi brand, announced a partial resumption of train services on Sunday evening.
Electric train service has resumed on the Riga-Tukums II route, as well as on the Riga-Lielvārde and Riga-Olaine sections. On the Olaine-Jelgava-Olaine section, passengers are currently being transported by diesel train instead. The Riga-Vecāķi section remains closed.
Skulte line being restored in stages
On the Skulte railway line, service is being restored gradually. Traffic on the Vecāķi-Saulkrasti section is expected to resume around 5 p.m., the Riga-Vecāķi section around 7 p.m., and the Ziemeļblāzma-Saulkrasti section around 8 p.m. The Saulkrasti-Skulte section will only reopen on August 24.
A train from Daugavpils to Riga was scheduled to depart around 8 p.m. The timing for restoring service on other routes and sections is still being finalized.
Timing may change
Vivi stressed that the announced resumption times are preliminary and may change depending on how quickly VAS "Latvijas dzelzceļš" repairs the storm damage to rail infrastructure. The company also warned that even after service resumes, trains will need time to return to their normal schedules, meaning initial delays are possible.
Passengers are advised to check current train schedule information before traveling.
