A new study on the state of cybersecurity among Latvian businesses reveals a contradictory picture — while the number of cyberattacks in the country keeps rising, a significant share of companies remain unworried about the threat.

According to the study's findings, 18% of Latvian companies have already directly experienced cyberattacks. This means that nearly one in five companies in the country has faced some form of digital threat to its operations.

Complacency despite growing risk

Despite the constantly rising number of cyberattacks, the study shows that 34% of Latvian companies are not concerned about this threat. In other words, more than a third of surveyed businesses do not consider cybersecurity risks to be a significant issue for their operations.

This situation points to a gap between the actual cyberthreat landscape and companies' subjective perception of risk. Although the number of attacks is increasing and some businesses have already suffered from them, a large share of industry representatives still do not treat cybersecurity as a priority issue.

The study's results highlight the need for greater awareness of cybersecurity risks within Latvia's business environment, particularly given that the number of attacks continues to grow regardless of companies' readiness to counter them.
