According to the international study "Happy Neighbourhood Report 2026" by real estate developer Bonava, 57% of Latvian residents are considering moving to another home. In the Baltics as a whole, this figure is 60%.
The study reveals that in Latvia, 47% of those planning to move wish to do so within the next two years, while in the Baltics, 41% express such intentions. The primary reasons for moving are a desire for a higher-quality home – cited by nearly half of respondents – and the need for more living space, indicated by 40% of Latvians and 48% of Baltic residents. 26% of Latvian respondents want to change neighborhoods, and 17% seek a home with a garden.
Conversely, those not planning to move are mainly satisfied with their neighborhood – 59% of Latvian respondents cite this. 91% of Latvians feel safe in their neighborhood, and 89% feel at home. Other significant factors for staying include the current home still suiting their life situation and convenient distance to work or school.
The study indicates that financial capabilities influence housing choices. In Latvia, 51% of those interested in a new home are willing to pay up to €100,000, while in the Baltics, only 30% mention such a budget. Higher prices are more acceptable in other Baltic countries – for example, 29% of Baltic respondents consider €150,000 acceptable, compared to 22% in Latvia.
The survey was conducted in January 2026 across six countries, surveying 4,004 people aged 20 to 74. In the Baltics, responses from 999 respondents were analyzed, including 333 in Latvia. The survey primarily focused on residents living in capital cities.
