First Broken Screens Reported on iPhone Duo as It Goes on Sale
On the day Apple's foldable iPhone Duo officially goes on sale, users on Reddit are reporting several units with damaged inner screens. The damage appears in a similar spot near the hinge.

Apple's iPhone Duo officially went on sale today, but a few units already have broken screens, according to the technology outlet The Verge, which cited user posts on the social network Reddit. The reports matter because they emerged on the very first day the device reached the market.
Where the damage appears
Based on the posts, the problem looks similar across the affected phones and shows up in the same area. Some kind of defect appears on the inner screen along the hinge, and a strange bright line, or several lines, runs across the right side of the display.
One user's account
A user in Australia said they had owned the phone for about six hours and had probably opened it fewer than 20 times. While showing it to a friend, they felt something around the internal hinge, beneath the screen. As they kept opening the phone, they heard an audible crack, and the screen broke right along the hinge.
The user said there were no marks or damage on the inner screen's surface or on the external hinge to suggest anything had been caught or damaged. According to them, the Apple Store replaced the phone with a brand-new one on the spot.
Other reports
Another Reddit post shows an image of a different broken screen, and a comment on it includes a video of yet another unit. A separate Reddit thread has collected further pictures of affected Duos.
Apple did not immediately respond to The Verge's request for comment. The source does not say how many devices in total are affected, and the company has not yet addressed the problem.
