The Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia (PVD) has identified Salmonella contamination in a range of Polish chicken meat products following laboratory testing. Contamination was found in chicken ham with batch number 6450725501, chicken breast fillet slices, chicken hearts in 400-gram packaging with batch number 20146948, and chicken fillet strips.

The specific bacteria detected include Salmonella Enteritidis in ham and breast slices, a combination of Salmonella Infantis and Enteritidis in hearts, and Salmonella Newport in fillet strips. PVD emphasizes that all these products have already expired and are no longer available for sale, ensuring that there is no immediate risk to consumers from currently marketed goods.

PVD has submitted alerts to the European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), which facilitates the swift exchange of information among member states regarding food safety risks.

The PVD is a state authority under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible for monitoring and controlling the food chain and veterinary medicine in Latvia. By publicizing such detections, the service aims to uphold food safety standards and keep the public informed about potential health hazards.
