Riga residents' evaluation of city council worsens
A new SKDS survey shows that over the past half-year, satisfaction with Riga City Council has decreased, with 46% of residents giving a negative rating.

Residents of Riga have grown less satisfied with the work of the city council over the last six months, according to a survey conducted by the research center SKDS commissioned by the Riga City Council.
Compared to November 2025, the satisfaction index dropped from minus 0.9 to minus 4.6 in May 2026. Negative assessments were given by 46% of respondents, while 43% expressed a positive opinion.
The survey revealed significant differences between citizens and non-citizens. Latvian citizens rated the council's work with an index of plus 0.1, whereas non-citizens gave a much lower index of minus 26.6.
Positive evaluations were more common among residents aged 18–34, those with higher education, those who primarily speak Latvian at home, public sector employees, those with medium-high or high incomes, and residents of the Vidzeme suburb, Kurzeme district, and Zemgale suburb.
Critical evaluations were more frequent among respondents aged 45 and over, those with primary or secondary education, Russian speakers, private sector employees, and residents of the Latgale suburb and Northern district.
The survey was conducted in May 2026 through face-to-face interviews at the homes of 804 registered Riga residents aged 18 to 75.
