Riga's local government has prepared a new urban greening plan covering the next five years, aiming to make the city greener by 2031. The plan includes the creation of micro-forests and so-called pocket parks – small green spaces that complement existing infrastructure.

The total cost for implementing the plan is estimated at €55 million. Residents are invited to participate in a public consultation and submit their opinions until the end of July.

According to Latvian Radio, the initiative is part of a long-term strategy to improve the urban environment and promote sustainable development. Detailed information about the plan is available on the Riga City Council's website.

The proposed greening measures are expected to enhance air quality, provide shaded areas during hot summer months, and support biodiversity within the city. Successful implementation will require close coordination with other urban development projects and active public engagement.
