Rivian apologizes for delays in shipping its futuristic Also e-bike
Rivian’s micromobility offshoot Also has apologized to customers for delays in delivering its high-tech TM-B e-bike, saying strict quality standards and supply-chain issues are to blame.

Also, the micromobility spinoff of electric vehicle maker Rivian, is facing a difficult rollout for its futuristic TM-B e-bike. Unveiled last year, the bike immediately stood out thanks to its unusual design and advanced features, including a USB-C rechargeable battery, a removable seat post, and a software-controlled pedal-by-wire system that has no mechanical link between pedaling and propulsion.
The company originally planned to start customer deliveries in spring 2026, then shifted the target to summer. But as fall approaches, no reservation holders have received their bikes, and several customers have voiced frustration on Reddit.
In an unusual move, Also chose to respond directly to those complaints on Reddit. Product manager Saul Leiken posted a 661-word apology letter, explaining that the delay stems from a commitment to quality rather than a rush to ship an unfinished product. Leiken pointed to “significant supply chain challenges” worsened by the artificial-intelligence boom. The company has struggled to source enough printed circuit board and integrated circuit materials for the software-heavy bike. In some cases, it has had to find alternative materials that deviate from the original design, requiring extra engineering and testing.
The battery has also created obstacles. The TM-B is offered with either a 538Wh or an 808Wh pack, which is supposed to provide up to 100 miles of range. However, the 240W power delivery exceeds current regulatory guidelines, so Also is working with standards organizations to establish new safety and testing protocols.
A further complication is the DreamRide drivetrain, a pedal-by-wire system in which the rider pedals a generator motor that replenishes the battery, while a separate traction motor drives the rear wheel through software and a Gates Carbon belt. Leiken admitted that this system requires high-precision manufacturing, which has slowed the production ramp-up to ensure quality.
While acknowledging that customers could have been kept better informed, Also defended its decision not to lower its quality bar. Leiken apologized for the communication gaps and reiterated that holding the line on standards was the right choice.
