Autumn fashion accessories: from long gloves to grey tights

In the autumn fashion season, accessories are seen as the simplest way to change the overall look of an outfit. The Latvian news portal NRA lists six trends in its fashion feature that designers and stylists are highlighting this season. In their view, accessories should be expressive in colour, texture and shape, yet also practical.

Gloves and brooches

One of the season's most elegant accessories is the mid-length and long glove, in the length of classic opera gloves, inspired by 19th-century fashion. They can be made of leather, velvet or satin, in muted or bright shades, and also with animal prints.

Brooches have been in fashion for several seasons. This autumn the floral motif is popular: asters, oversized lilies, calla lilies and other plants. A brooch can be pinned to a jacket or coat lapel, a scarf, a shawl or a hat, and sometimes even to socks or shoes.

Fur and belts

This season fur is used in the trim of coats, jackets and hats, as well as in separate accessories: muffs, collars, pockets and capes. Muffs were historically used by noblewomen in Venice to warm their hands in cold palaces, and later became popular among aristocratic men too. Today faux and imitation materials are also available.

This autumn the belt is wider than usual, more colourful or fitted with an ornate buckle. It can be worn over a sweater, jacket or coat to mark the waistline. Some brands put the focus on the buckle, using large decorative elements.

Leggings and grey tights

Leggings are returning as an accessory that can be combined with skirts, sweater dresses, ponchos and jackets. A current variation is leggings with foot straps, though the classic cut has not gone away.

NRA calls grey tights one of the most expressive clothing items of the year. Because 2026 is a colourful year in fashion, the grey tone stands out, and it suits both everyday and work styles.
