Training Cycle for Selonia and Latgale Communities Concludes in Augšdaugava Municipality
A training cycle for residents and NGOs in Augšdaugava municipality has concluded, aiming to unite communities from both banks of the Daugava River and provide practical knowledge.

The Augšdaugava municipality has successfully concluded a training cycle for residents and non-governmental organizations, designed to foster unity between communities on both banks of the Daugava River and enhance mutual cooperation. Over seven meetings held in various parishes, active participants gained diverse knowledge and laid the groundwork for closer parish collaboration, overcoming geographical barriers between Selonia and Latgale.
The training cycle was organized by the association "Augšzemnieki," which operates on the left bank of the municipality – in Selonia. The idea emerged from the realization that the Augšdaugava municipality is territorially large, and residents on one bank often do not know what is happening on the other. With support from the EU LEADER program and the Augšdaugava municipal council, a platform was created to bring together these two historical lands and encourage community cooperation.
The training program covered a wide range of topics: cultural and natural heritage, NGO accounting and fundraising, first aid and actions in emergency situations, and other practical subjects. Participants met in Līksna, Naujene, Medumi, Višķi, Vecsaliena, Šēdere, and concluded in Dviete. Industry experts and municipal representatives attended the sessions.
Participants praised the training. Anita from Līksna, who attended all seven sessions, highlighted the quality of lectures, interesting information, and up-to-date legislation. Dāvis from Dviete, who participated in five days, appreciated the active residents' desire to strengthen community capital. Viktorija from Laucene particularly noted the lecture on civil protection, which provided a clear action plan.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters, including the program coordinator "Partnerība Kaimiņi" and the Augšdaugava municipal staff who hosted participants in cultural centers. The training cycle was implemented under the project "Training Cycle for Selonia and Latgale Communities in Augšdaugava Municipality" (No. 25-03-CL30-C0LA19.2202-000003), co-financed by the EU and the municipality.
