Latvian road cyclist Toms Skujiņš (team Lidl-Trek) finished tenth in the one-day classic Paris–Tours, held this year for the 120th time. The result earned him 40 UCI ranking points. The UCI is the international governing body of cycling, and its points count towards rider and team standings.
The course and the race
Riders covered 216.2 kilometres. Over roughly the final 70 kilometres they had to tackle ten gravel sectors and several short climbs.
Skujiņš competed in a breakaway group for a place on the podium and attacked in the closing kilometres. His rivals quickly caught him, however.
Winner and results
Norwegian Per Strand Hagenes (Visma/Lease a Bike) broke away from the leading group in the final kilometre. He reached the finish alone in four hours, 31 minutes and 46 seconds and took first place.
Belgian Jasper Stuyven (Soudal Quick-Step) came second. Frenchman Christophe Laporte (Visma/Lease a Bike) completed the podium. Both finished two seconds behind the winner.
Skujiņš crossed the line nine seconds behind Hagenes. His tenth place brought him points in the UCI ranking.
