Verstappen wins Singapore Grand Prix for the first time in his career
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull won round 17 of the Formula 1 season in Singapore, his first victory there. Kimi Antonelli remains the championship leader.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, the 17th round of the Formula 1 (F-1) world championship. For the four-time world champion it is a first victory at this race, even though he has competed in it since 2015. The result leaves him fourth in the drivers' standings.
How the race unfolded
Verstappen had won the sprint race a day earlier, and he started the Grand Prix from pole position, keeping the lead after the start. He managed the race confidently and crossed the line 7.335 seconds ahead of runner-up Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.
Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) took third place. Both McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, finished fourth and fifth. Lewis Hamilton was sixth; he spent most of the race fighting for a podium place but lost several positions in the final laps. Championship runner-up George Russell (Mercedes) finished ninth.
Championship standings
Antonelli stays top of the drivers' standings with 340 points. Russell has 238, Hamilton 229, Verstappen 221, Leclerc 215, Norris 201 and Piastri 138.
In the constructors' championship, Mercedes have 578 points, Ferrari 444, McLaren 339 and Red Bull 332.
Season calendar
The season was scheduled to include 24 rounds, but the races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled because of the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East. The season will end in Abu Dhabi in early December.
Last season Lando Norris became world champion for the first time, while McLaren won the constructors' title for the second year in a row.
