Social media users share what a driving licence cost them in Latvia: from 300 to 4,000 euros
Users of the social network Threads have shared in comments how much they spent obtaining a driving licence in Latvia. Amounts range from a few hundred euros to 3,000–4,000, largely depending on how many extra driving lessons were needed.

Getting a driving licence in Latvia costs some people a few hundred euros and others several thousand. This emerges from a discussion on the social network Threads, where users described what they spent. The amounts mentioned in the comments range from about 300 euros to 3,000 and 4,000 euros.
The discussion was started by a user named Matīss, who invited others to share their experiences. He said he once managed to get his licence for just 620 euros.
What affects the cost
Commenters say expenses come from the driving school theory course, mandatory driving lessons, additional lessons and exam fees. Some stress that the final sum depends on how quickly a person learns the skills, how confident they feel behind the wheel and whether cooperation with the instructor works well. One commenter suggests considering a change of instructor.
One woman says she began learning from scratch in 2021 and passed the exam in 2023 on her fifth attempt. According to her, waiting in the queue before each exam is long, so extra lessons are needed, and a single exam cost about 150 euros. She had around 40 driving lessons and spent roughly 3,000 euros in total.
Examples from different years
One commenter says that in 2018 everything cost about 500 euros, including the medical check and a first-aid course. Another participant got her licence in 2023 for about 600 euros, when a lesson cost 40 euros, and passed the CSDD (the Road Traffic Safety Directorate) exam on her fourth attempt.
A category B licence cost one commenter about 300 euros in 2015, while obtaining category A a few years later cost about 700 euros. A category C licence cost 1,500 euros a year ago. One user spent about 3,500 euros two years ago, another around 3,000 euros, and another commenter about 2,000 euros.
Several participants believe that today one should expect around 1,000 euros or more, especially when starting from zero.
