Finland to launch new FI-Alert emergency warning system in November
Finland will start using FI-Alert in November, a system that sends danger warnings to the phones of all mobile operators within a chosen area. Estonia plans to introduce similar technology by 2027.

Finland will put a new public warning system, FI-Alert, into operation in November. It allows authorities to send danger alerts to the phones of all mobile operators' customers in a specific zone. The information comes from the Finnish news service Yle, as reported by the Russian-language edition of Estonian public broadcaster ERR.
The system works with 4G and 5G smartphones. Using it requires no app download and no registration.
How the alert appears on a phone
A danger warning will be displayed on the screen as a separate message. The recipient will hear the alert even if the smartphone is set to silent mode.
Estonia's plans
Estonia also plans to introduce a short-message broadcast technology by 2027. It makes it possible to send warnings to smartphones instantly and, depending on the level of danger, to trigger a sound and light signal even when the phone is on silent.
The source does not specify in which situations alerts will be sent in Finland, nor the exact November launch date.
