SwitchBot Bot Rechargeable: A Tiny Robot for Smart Home Automation
The SwitchBot Bot Rechargeable is a device that automates physical switches, making ordinary gadgets smarter. A review highlights installation challenges but reliable performance.

The SwitchBot Bot Rechargeable is a small device that attaches to switches or buttons with adhesive. Its robotic arm physically presses or pulls the switch, allowing automation of various devices such as coffee makers, light switches, garage door openers, and laundry machines.
Priced at $33.99, it can be paired with a SwitchBot Hub for hands-free control via voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as remote control from outside the home.
Unlike the original model that uses disposable batteries, the new version has a USB-C rechargeable battery. Battery life is up to six months with one activation per day, compared to up to 600 days for the original. Despite shorter battery life, the rechargeable option is more convenient as it eliminates the need for replacement batteries.
Installation can be tricky. The arm must be positioned precisely to reach the switch, push it, and retract. The device comes with a plastic attachment for light switches, which initially caused confusion for the reviewer. After several attempts, it was aligned correctly.
During testing, the Bot performed reliably, never missing scheduled actions and responding from across the apartment. The reviewer used it to turn on a light before entering a room to avoid cockroaches.
The SwitchBot Bot Rechargeable is not necessary in a home already filled with smart bulbs and plugs. However, it offers a clever and inexpensive solution for automating one or two devices that lack smart features.
