Traditional Jāņi cheese: six required ingredients and EU protection

As Jāņi approaches, everyone can check whether they know the secrets of traditional Jāņi cheese. Since 2016, the traditional method of making Jāņi cheese has been protected by the European Union quality label “Traditional Speciality Guaranteed”. This means that only cheese produced according to the approved recipe can be called Jāņi cheese.
The portal RECEPTES.LV has created a test where readers can find out if they know which six products are needed to make authentic Jāņi cheese at home. For those who prefer industrially produced cheese, it should be noted that such products often contain a seventh ingredient: beta carotene, added to achieve a brighter color.
